How to get to CBPF

1) From the International Airport of Tom Jobim

You have the following options:

  • Special taxi service – fixed price from the Airport to CBPF.
  • Yellow taxi service – standard taxis work with a taximeter. Do not accept proposals from taxis outside the taxi queue, since there is the risk of getting an irregular taxi and having to pay a price higher than it should be.
  • Special bus (note that, on Sundays, the bus goes by Flamengo beach). Get off at the stop in front of Rio Sul Shopping Center (Botafogo).
  • If you have internet access, you may download the VAH app, which will allow you to compare among all the taxi apps (such as 99 Taxi) as well as private transport (such as Uber and Cabify). This way, you will be able to choose the cheapest or the quickest option, based on your needs.
  1. Note: on Sundays, standard taxis drive with fare level 2.

2) From the Airport of Santos Dumont

You have the following options:

  • Standard Taxi – it is a rather short drive. Do not accept proposals from taxis outside the taxi queue, since there is the risk of getting an irregular taxi and having to pay a price higher than it should be. For that reason, we recommend that you pay a little more and get a special taxi (the destination and price are arranged before driving off) and then there should be nothing to worry about.
  • If you have internet access, you may download the VAH app, which will allow you to compare among all the taxi apps (such as 99 Taxi) as well as private transport (such as Uber and Cabify). This way, you will be able to choose the cheapest or the quickest option, based on your needs.
  • Bus - if you come from the airport by bus, you should get off at Rio Sul Shopping Center, walk through the pedestrian tunnel, at the exit of the tunnel take the footpath on the left  (i.e., the side opposite to the shopping center) and continue on this footpath. You will then walk along the whole of Rua Lauro Müller (in the opposite direction of the cars) and, at the end, after the street has turned to the right, take the street on the left at the bifurcation, which is Rua Dr. Xavier Sigaud.

3) From the main bus station ("Rodoviária")

You have the following options:

  • Standard taxi.
  • If you have internet access, you may download the VAH app, which will allow you to compare among all the taxi apps (such as 99 Taxi) as well as private transport (such as Uber and Cabify). This way, you will be able to choose the cheapest or the quickest option, based on your needs.
  • Bus - take a bus that goes to Botafogo and get off at Rio Sul Shopping Center, walk through the pedestrian tunnel, take the footpath where Casa de Shows (concert venue) Canecão is and continue on that footpath (with the shopping center across the street on your right). You will then walk through the whole of Rua Lauro Müller (in the opposite direction of the cars) and, at the end, after the street has turned to the right, take the street on the left at the bifurcation, which is Rua Dr. Xavier Sigaud.
  • Another option is the bus integrated with the metro. It costs R$4.05. The bus will leave you at the metro station of Estácio. At Estácio, you should take the metro line 1 – destination South (Botafogo/Copacabana/General Osório/Jardim Oceânico) and get off at the Botafogo metro station. After getting off at Botafogo, you should take the Integrated Metro ("Integração do Metrô") towards Urca and get off in front of Instituto Benjamin Constant. The Rua Xavier Sigaud is right beside this Institute. The main entrance to CBPF is 200m away from the start of the street (Dr. Xavier Sigaud).
  • Attention: be careful with your luggage and your wallet, particularly on the city buses and at the main bus station (Rodoviária). At the airports and the main bus station, go to the taxi queue and do not accept proposals from people offering you a taxi outside the queue.
  • Attention II: on Sundays, all buses, even those that usually go on the road along Aterro do Flamengo, go by Flamengo beach.
  1. If you come on a bus from the South zone (Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana), you can get on bus number 511 (Urca-Leblon), stay on it until it arrives at Av. Pasteur and then get off at Instituto Benjamin Constant (an Institute for blind people). Then just walk back about 20 m and you will reach Rua Dr. Xavier Sigaud. If you take another bus, just get off at Rio Sul shopping center, take the walkpath of Canecão and follow the same instructions as a paragraph above.
  2. Another option is to take any bus which goes to Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon and which goes by Rio Sul Shopping center. Get off at the stop for Rio Sul Shopping center, walk through the pedestrian tunnel, and then onto Rua Lauro Muller, which is to the left of the shopping center. Following Rua Lauro Muller, you will arrive at CBPF - see details in a paragraph above.

4) By car

  • If you come by car, drive in the direction towards Copacabana/Botafogo (South zone). When arriving at Copacabana (Av. Atlântica, beside the beach) continue on towards Av. Princesa Isabel - Leme (at the corner with Av. P. Isabel there is the Hotel Meridien). Go through the Novo tunnel and continue on the direction towards Sugar Loaf (at the exit of Novo tunnel you will be see Rio Sul Shopping Center just at your right). When entering Av. Pasteur (it is the avenue where the Rio de Janeiro Yacht Club/Iate Clube is) take the first turn to the right (just after the campus of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ). You will then be at Rua Dr. Xavier Sigaud. The CBPF building will be at your right, about 200m away from the entrance to that small street.

  • If you come by car from Santos Dumont airport, drive  in the direction towards Copacabana. Drive through the whole Aterro do Flamengo park (right beside Flamengo beach). Drive through the Pasmado tunnel (at your left there will be the Shopping Center Rio-OffPrice). Before entering the next tunnel, i.e., the Novo tunnel, take the exit for Rio Sul Shopping Center (this road goes over Novo tunnel and virtually through the inside of the Shopping Center), you will soon pass by the Casa de Show (concert venue of) Canecão on your right, and then continue onto Av. Wenceslau Bráz. From there, continue on in the direction towards Sugar Loaf or the Rio de Janeiro Yacht Club/Iate Clube and follow the directions in the paragraph above.

  1. Note: there is no parking for visitors at CPBF. The employees of UFRJ can use the campus of UFRJ and enter CBPF via the side entrance (on Rua Lauro Muller). Do not forget to bring some Identity Document with you, since you will be required to show it at the entrance to CBPF.
